Well, the end is near… Goodbye to the summer holidays, hours of scorching heat and welcome the approach of September. However, before we move on and Mariah Carey inevitably begins her annual defrost, can we just take a moment to process all the incredible women’s music released this far in 2025?

FKA Twigs set the tone with her sensually masterful EUSEXUA, followed by the queens of internet sensation, Tate McRae with So Close To What, and Pink Panthress’ Fancy That. Speaking of, it would be simply criminal to not credit former-TikTok influencer, Addison Rae after she spun the heads of internet naysayers with her frilly socks, lacy lingerie and self-titled debut album, Addison. It truly has been a summer for the girls. The music gods have graced us further with endless promises of new releases to get us through the last stretch of 2025. After deliberating with our writers, we reveal Gurlish’s five most anticipated albums…

5. Laufey – A Matter of Time

Release Date: 22 August 2025

A Matter of Time is Laufey’s third studio album and consists of 14 tracks. If the four, already-released singles give us any indication of what to expect, then I think a box of tissues is essential. ‘Lover Girl’, ‘Snow White’, ‘Silver Lining’ and ‘Tough Luck’, explore a refreshing vulnerability and personal introspection unique to this project. While still addressing themes such as apprehensive love and the ending of relationships, standout single, ‘Snow White’ combats the age-old struggles of self-perception and acceptance.

“For this album, I just wanted to let my heart wander. […] People expect a pretty façade of girly clothes, fantastical stories, and romantic music. This time, I was interested in seeing how I could draw out the most flawed parts of myself and look at them directly in the mirror.” – Laufey

4. Wolf Alice – The Clearing

Release Date: 22 August 2025

The British quartet, famed for their genre-bending creations, are set to release their fourth studio album this month. Three singles have been released to date, ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, ‘The Sofa’ and ‘White Horses’, each offering experimental instrumentation. Frontwoman Ellie Rowsell showcases her electrifying vocals, embracing a fresh and welcomed turn to rock ‘n’ roll. With ’70s glamour and a matured, dynamic sound, the band have a lot to offer in this new era. The album will be accompanied by a world tour – one of their few performances since 2022 – and arrive in the UK this November.

“I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman. I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the ‘girl singer in band’ trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.” – Ellie Rowsell

3. Olivia Dean – The Art of Loving

Release Date: 26 September 2025

Not a new star, but most certainly on the rise with her highly anticipated second studio album, The Art of Loving. Olivia Dean has had an incredible year featuring on the soundtrack of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2025), touring with Sam Fender and releasing their new collaborative single, ‘Rein Me In’. Classy, smooth and jazzy — the perfect way to frame Dean’s style and hopefully what can be expected from her autumnal release. Just this week Dean released her third single from the album, ‘Man I Need’, after the recent streaming successes of ’Nice To Each Other’ and ‘Lady Lady’. The album could not come quick enough!

2. The Last Dinner Party – From the Pyre

Release Date: 17 October 2025

The Last Dinner Party culminated a cult following long before the release of their debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy. An impressive feat for a, then unknown, band of musicians. Their ability to craft melodies overflowing with classical allusion and feminine rage truly sets them apart from an increased saturation of indie rock. This next album, From the Pyre, follows its predecessor with fantastical folklore and a seemingly new sound for the group, which they aptly describe to be “a little darker, more raw and more earthy”. With only one single officially released, much is left to the imagination for the nine remaining tracks.

1. Sabrina Carpenter – Man’s Best Friend

Release Date: 29 August 2025

It is no wonder this album ranked highest amongst our writers. Spotlighted by controversy, curiosity and overt sensuality, Man’s Best Friend has been subjected to intense online debate regarding the perceived power imbalances on the original album cover. Gifted to fans just over a year after Sabrina Carpenter’s release of Short ‘n’ Sweet, this album is highly anticipated by fans and cynics alike. Just how will she top the phenomenal success she’s seen thus far? ‘Manchild’ being the only single released, and the 11 other track names following suit, one can only assume this will be Sabrina doing what she does best – putting men in their place.
