At the University of York Drama Society’s Fringe Showcase, the audience was given first access to Devereux and Skinner’s hilarious Fools Gold. Scenes Four and Seven were performed to a captivated audience and displayed the inherent ridiculousness of the Wild Wild West. Each scene is set in a saloon called The Last Chance, with the typical cowboy antics unfolding alongside an abundance of comedic magic from the writers, performed impeccably by each actor. 

The first scene saw Iszkula’s Jebidiah accuse the rest of the characters of stealing his gold and he sold the performance with flawless timing and sublime physical acting. In a completely bare rendition of the play, the setting and feeling was portrayed effortlessly by the cast, placing the audience right into the American West. In the second scene, Smith’s Jenkins captured the fantastic writing of Devereux and Skinner, allowing  the jokes to land and be met with a reaction of giddy laughter. I am jealous of anyone able to see the full performance, although they must be prepared to lose their breath with laughter.
